Door stuck open
Safely, right now
- Leave the door where it is: forcing it down or pressing the button again can bend it.
- Keep the doorway clear of people, pets and vehicles.
- Leave the red emergency release alone while the door is up: it can come down hard.
Door won't close
Safely, right now
- Give the remote a rest: each new try strains the opener and can bend the door.
- Keep clear of the doorway, even to move something out of the way. Tell us on the call if you can see anything in the door's path.
- Never tape over, bypass or move the little sensors near the floor to force it shut.
Spring snapped
Safely, right now
- Don't try to lift the door and don't run the opener.
- Keep everyone, pets included, and every vehicle away from the door.
- If the door is open, leave the red emergency release alone: without the spring it can fall.
Car stuck inside
Safely, right now
- Never try to push through the door with the car.
- Don't pull the release or lift the door if it feels heavy or you heard a bang. That usually means a broken spring.
- Plan on leaving the car where it is until the door has been checked.
Cold thickens grease, steel contracts, and a spring that was tired in the autumn lets go in the middle of a freeze. We service garage doors in Schomberg for the seasons they actually live through, with cold-rated lubricants, bottom seals that stay flexible below zero, and hardware that stands up to road salt.

The fix, explained · Schomberg
What is the door doing?
EmergencyTorsion Spring ReplacementLooking up at the coil above the door, you can see a clean split with a gap of several centimetres between the two halves.
The fix
Torsion spring replacement is really a service on the whole balance system. The spring sits on a shaft that turns in a centre bearing and two end bearings, drives a pair of cable drums, and lifts the door through two steel cables.
Until then
When a spring breaks, the safe approach for the household is to leave the door where it is, keep people and vehicles clear, and avoid running the opener, which can damage the top section, the trolley or the gear drive.
Pull the manual release only when the door is fully closed unless a technician asks otherwise; a door disconnected while partly open can move on its own if the springs are out of balance.

EmergencyOff-Track Garage Door ResetThe morning after a thaw the opener groaned, the door stayed stuck to the icy floor for a second, then lurched up crooked.
The fix
The reason to stop pressing the wall button is that an opener cannot tell a racked door from a heavy one. Each cycle drives the tilted sections harder into the rails, bending hinges, tearing the track from the jamb and stressing the cables that are already out of place.
Until then
Never run the opener on a door that is off its track or hanging crooked; every cycle drives the racked door harder into the rails and can pull the track from the wall or tear a hinge.

EmergencyGarage Door Cable ReplacementThe car bumper kissed the door on the way in.
The fix
Two steel cables do the lifting on a sectional garage door. Each runs from a bracket at a bottom corner up to the counterbalance, and the springs pull on the door through them.

EmergencyExtension Spring ReplacementOpen the door by hand and it drifts back down on its own, a little at first and then all at once.
The fix
Every extension spring should carry a containment cable, and replacement is the moment to make sure yours do. A containment cable runs through the centre of the spring and is anchored at both ends, to the rear hanger and to the bracket at the front of the track.

Book soonEmergency Release RepairIt is the coldest morning of the year.
The fix
The visit runs in a fixed order. On the phone you describe what the release did, where the door was, and what kind of opener hangs from the ceiling.
Until then
Pull the release with the door fully closed whenever possible, and keep the opening clear as you do.
Lift a door by its handles or the gripping points on the panel face, never at the joint between sections, which closes as the door bends around the track.
Book soonGarage Door Opener Diagnosis and RepairThe door stops partway up for no reason, or opens fine and then refuses the next time.
The fix
Garage door opener diagnosis is a fault-finding visit with a fixed order of tests. The technician confirms power at the ceiling receptacle, tries each control on its own, checks the safety sensors and their indicator lights, examines the drive train from motor to trolley, and reads any flash code the unit is showing.
Until then
Pull the release with the door fully closed whenever possible, and keep the opening clear as you do.
Never drive a vehicle at a closed door to get out; the door collapses and the stored tension in the counterbalance is released.

What the census means at the door
38%
Homes of every age. About 38% of homes in King were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census.
Mixed neighbourhoods often include renovated older houses with a new facade and a garage door that no longer suits it. Choosing a door that ties the renovation together, then installing it plumb and balanced in an older opening, is work we do regularly and enjoy.
87%
Mostly houses. Single-detached houses make up about 87% of homes in King (2021 Census).
In neighbourhoods of detached homes the garage door usually faces the street and takes up much of the front of the house, so its condition shapes how the whole property looks. A straight, quiet, well-finished door is as much a part of the curb appeal as the front door.

Talk to us about garage doors in Schomberg.
Businesses in Schomberg get the same technicians as households, with a schedule built around the hours the door has to be open. We arrive with commercial springs and operator parts, do the noisy work when it disturbs the fewest people, and leave a written note of what was done and what to watch for.
King, Clearview Heights, Heritage Park, King City, Ansnorveldt, Lloydtown, Nobleton and Temperanceville
We show, then tell. Worn cables, tired springs and misaligned sensors are pointed out on the door itself, so the explanation makes sense.
Clean-up included. Old parts are removed, surfaces wiped and the floor swept before we consider the visit complete.
The right repair for your situation. Some doors deserve a full refresh; others need one part. We help you weigh that against how long you plan to keep the door.

Which fix fits?
IfThe opener is decades old and has no safety sensors.
Modern openers reverse on contact and on a broken beam; the upgrade is worth doing for the sensors alone.
IfYou would like to close the door from your phone when you have forgotten.
ThenSmart controller installation.
A small controller pairs with most openers and reports the door's position to an app.
IfA remote has gone missing and you are not sure where.
ThenErase and reprogram remotes.
Clearing the opener's memory and re-pairing the remotes you still have keeps the lost one from opening the door.
IfThe power went out in the middle of an ice storm, the car is inside, and when you reach up for the red handle there is nothing there.
The visit runs in a fixed order.
Ask us anything
Why is the bottom section handled differently from the others?
The bottom section is where the lift cables attach, through the bottom brackets at each end, and those cables are under the full pull of the springs. Before the brackets come off, the springs have to be unwound or unhooked so the cables go slack. The bottom section also carries the seal retainer and astragal that meet the floor. After the new section is in, the springs are re-tensioned and the balance reset.
Should the side and top weatherstripping be replaced at the same time?
It is worth having them looked at while the technician is there. The vinyl fin on the stop moulding around the jambs and header shrinks, tears and hardens on the same schedule as the bottom seal, and a draft that survives a new bottom seal usually comes from the sides. Doing the perimeter in the same visit saves a return trip and leaves the door sealed on all four edges.
Will the lift cables be changed as well?
They are inspected every time and changed when they show fraying, rust at the bottom loop, or a kink from having jumped a pulley. Cables and springs are generally the same age, and with the door already open and the springs off, fitting new cables adds little to the visit. Bright, tight strands with clean loops can stay and are simply re-routed over the pulleys and set to the new springs.
Should I lubricate anything after the visit?
A little, twice a year. Use a product sold for garage doors on the spring coils, hinge pins, roller stems, bearings and bracket pins, and cycle the door a few times to work it in. The tracks want a wipe, not a spray, because a slick track lets the rollers skid and gathers grit. Skip thick grease. Low friction is what lets the springs' setting hold true.
